Empower Recovery Through Compassionate, Evidence-Based Care
Bleuler Psychotherapy Center is seeking a dedicated Addiction Counselor to join our OASAS-certified Chemical Dependency (BCD) Program in Forest Hills, Queens. This full-time hybrid position offers an opportunity to support adults, adolescents, and families navigating substance use and co-occurring challenges, including gambling addiction, in a mission-driven, trauma-informed setting.
You will work closely with an interdisciplinary team to deliver individual, group, and family counseling, and contribute meaningfully to each client’s long-term recovery.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct intake assessments, psychosocial evaluations, and screenings (DWI, gambling, substance use)
- Collaborate with clients to develop and update individualized treatment plans
- Deliver person-centered therapy via individual, group, family, and crisis counseling sessions
- Provide education and risk reduction counseling as the program’s Health Coordinator
- Monitor client progress and facilitate discharge planning and referrals
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation in accordance with OASAS guidelines
- Complete and submit PAS-44, PAS-45, PAS-48, and other required forms
- Coordinate care with Health Homes, detox/residential providers, and external partners
- Prepare reports for systems including courts, parole, probation, ACS, and EAPs
- Participate in case reviews, supervision, and clinical staff meetings
- Conduct toxicology testing as needed and respond to failed claims promptly
- Support quality assurance efforts and census-building initiatives
- Represent the program at community forums, outreach events, and meetings
- Provide coverage and perform other duties as needed
Qualifications
- NYS-licensed LMSW, LCSW, or LMHC (required)
- Active CASAC required (CASAC-T accepted if able to obtain full credential within 12 months)
- 3+ years of experience in substance use disorder (SUD) counseling (required)
- Completion of OASAS-approved gambling screening/treatment training (17 hours), or willingness to complete within 2 months (agency-supported)
- Strong written/verbal communication skills; bilingual (e.g., Spanish) a plus
- Proficiency with EHR systems, OASAS Portal, STARS
- Skilled in harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and the Twelve Core Functions
- Strong ability to engage clients with empathy, respect, and unconditional positive regard
- Highly organized, outcome-focused, and collaborative in clinical practice
