When people find out I transitioned from estate law to running a mental health clinic, the reaction is almost always the same: surprise. But after nearly two years leading Bleuler Psychotherapy Center, I’ve realized that therapy and support during life transitions isn’t far off from what I used to do in legal practice.
In both roles, I’ve helped people through difficult moments. One client came to me after the death of her mother, only to discover the will had been changed under suspicious circumstances. She was grieving, confused, and overwhelmed. I guided her through the legal process, but more importantly, I gave her space to feel understood.
Now, at Bleuler, I see our clinicians and support staff do the same – help people navigate grief, anxiety, trauma, or major life changes with compassion and clarity.
Translating Complexity Into Comfort
Whether it’s a will or a treatment plan, people often feel lost in systems they didn’t choose to enter. As a lawyer, I explained legal concepts in everyday language. At Bleuler, I watch our team do the same every day – clarifying therapy options, walking clients through insurance questions, and easing fears about what to expect.
Empathy, patience, and good communication make a world of difference – regardless of the field.
Emotions Don’t Respect Professional Boundaries
It turns out that grief, stress, and family conflict show up in legal offices just as much as therapy rooms. In both worlds, people want to be heard and helped – without judgment. I’ve come to admire the way our team at Bleuler holds space for clients, offering not just guidance but hope.
Whether it’s through individual counseling, support groups, or a kind voice at reception, every staff member contributes to healing.
Still Helping People Move Forward
I may not be drafting legal documents anymore, but I’m still part of meaningful work. At Bleuler, we support people as they face some of life’s toughest transitions, and that’s work I’m proud to be part of.
If you or someone you care about is struggling with a major life change – grief, loss, stress, or emotional overwhelm – we’re here to help. You don’t have to go through it alone.
